雖然都沒有什麼人願意一起翻譯，但沒關係，越挫越勇這類的成語我也是學過的。當初一個國中同學請我翻譯她的自傳，邊查字典邊套用我會的幾個句型，勉勉強強完成。完成之後覺得很爛，分別請Ko和Jin幫我看。Ko比較客氣，改掉我的幾個錯誤；Jin很認真，把我翻的全部重新寫了一遍。
這事情之後我有些灰心。在讀中文、寫中文的時候，一個句子順不順、用詞妥不妥貼，常常也沒有為什麼，靠的就是一個感覺；一個句子是不是多了幾個贅字，標點是否穩當，也都是感覺兩個字。對中文或許有那麼點感覺，對英文就完全沒有了，一句一句翻出來就耗去許多心力。
以下摘錄其中的一段，首先是中文原文，其次是我翻的，再來是Ko潤飾過的，最後是Jin大筆改過的，Jin大概直接看我譯文改的，所以和原文有些差距，但改得很好。

到台南唸大學後，接觸到不同的城市、不同生活圈的人，我發現這世界好大，也理解自己必須獨立自主，生活不再是無憂無慮了。唯一的依靠全仰賴話筒另一端溫暖的聲音，只要一點鼓勵的話就讓我有足夠的能量動起來，父親總說我像顆不耗電的電池，永遠精氣飽滿，因為我知道，只要對人都充滿活力，對方也能感受到那股奔騰 的熱情。
Then I went to Tainan for college, where I started to know a different city and meet different people. I found out that the world is so huge, that life is not easy and that I should be independent. While in Tainan , the only support I got was the warm voice from the other side of the phone. It needed only a few encouraging words to make me full of energy. Father always said that I was always in high spirits like a battery that never needed to be charged, because I know, as long as I am full of energy, people would get a sense of it.
Then I went to Tainan for college, where I started to know a different city and met different people. After moving to Tai-nan for college, I got the opportunity to meet different people from other cities. Many of them lead interesting lifestyles and showed me that the world outside is much bigger then what I was used to. I realized that I had to change and become more independent knowing that life is not as easy as like being well protected back home. Being alone in Tai-nan, I am always grateful for the encouragements I get from the other side of the telephone line to keep me intrigued to face this new challenge. My father always says that I’m like an energizer bunny that keeps going and going and going and is simply full of hope with the life ahead.
